Our Story
Honoring a Legacy
One evening in the summer of 1938, after a day of fishing on the beautiful Boulder River in south-central Montana, Ralph Cushing and Everett Terrell made a bold decision. Cushing, a structural engineer, and Terrell, an architect, decided to leave their present employer and begin a partnership of their own. So began the historic tale of Cushing & Terrell: the previously unheard-of alliance between an architect and an engineer under one roof.
The original Cushing & Terrell Organization focused on the core business philosophy of integrating design disciplines for all their projects. We maintain that tenet, and as building design and engineering systems become more sophisticated, we continue to add specialists to our staff - individuals who allow us to provide a complete package of services to deliver the highest value design solutions to our clients.
Since that eventful day in 1938, our name has evolved through many iterations - from Cushing & Terrell to the current CTA, Inc. - however, the golden rule of openness, honesty and integrity remains deeply rooted within our company.
Today, CTA responds to the challenges and expectations of our clients throughout the United States and selected foreign locations. CTA works closely with them to translate their ideas, goals and objectives into design solutions that are aesthetically pleasing, functional, resource efficient and cost effective.
1938 - Cushing Terrell Associates is founded in Billings, Montana as one of the nation's first integrated architecture engineering firms.
1966 - CTA opens its first regional office in Twin Falls, Idaho. The office moved to Boise in 1975, where it now houses 50+ employees.
2003 - CTA management meets to develop a new strategic plan, which establishes a new vision for regional and national growth.
2004 - CTA Billings redevelops an industrial warehouse into the new Billings office, demonstrating our commitment to adaptive reuse and energy efficient design.
2006 - CTA opens Toad N' Willow, a unique furnishing and design center, marking our first venture outside of "normal" architecture and engineering services.
2007 and Beyond - What's next for CTA ..... ?
